How to care for baby 👶 teeth!
Q: What should I use to clean my baby’s teeth?
A: A small, soft bristled tooth brush! There are specific infant ones.
***Even if your baby doesn’t have teeth yet, use a washcloth and water to wipe the gums!
Q: How often should I brush my baby’s teeth?
A: At least once a day, before bed.
Q: When should I take my baby to the dentist?
A: We were taught the recommendation of the AAPD (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) which is either upon eruption of the first tooth or before baby’s first birthday. This allows you to acquainted with your dentist, allows baby to take in the environment and can also be very informative for you! 🚑 A scientific paper in the journal Pediatric Dentistry revealed that children who wait to have their first dental visit until age two or three are more likely to require restorative and emergency visits.
Q: What is a pediatric dentist vs. a family dentist?
A: Pediatric dentists are the pediatricians of dentistry. A pediatric dentist has 2-3 years of additional training after dental school and limits their practice to treating children.
Q: Is rubbing their gums with fingers bad?
No, it is not bad! Teething can cause this.
Q: What can I do for teething?
When teeth first com in, some babies may have sore or tender gums. Gently rubbing your child's gums with a clean finger, a small, cool spoon or a wet gauze pad can be soothing. You can also give the baby a clean teething ring to chew on. If your child is still cranky and in pain, consult your dentist or physician.
